Sinequanon is a project based on the urban area of the city of L'Aquila (Italy), eight years after the 2009 earthquake that shattered the Italian region of Abruzzo. By repainting everyday objects found on building sites in white and photographing them on a neutral backdrop, Vittorini decontextualises these objects placing them at the centre of attention, as if representing a "status zero” of existence. Through this process, the objects are transformed from mere debris into components through which we can reconstruct something that no longer exists, which changes while its symbolic value continues to affect us.
Serena Vittorini (L’Aquila, 1990) is an Italian visual artist based in Belgium. In recent years she has been working on the link between identity and memory, blurring the boundaries between the intimate and the public, and between reality and fiction.
