by Batia Suter
With Radial Grammar, Batia Suter expands the initial reflections made in his first artistic book Parallel Encyclopaedia to create a vast personal exhibition at Le Bal (Paris, 2018), of prints and images in motion. Radial Grammar is a complex, intriguing and multiformat project: exhibition, book, screening. At Gibellina, the project with multiple interpretations takes the form of a film made to be watched as a large-scale projection on loop, projected onto the spectacular and imposing perfectly spherical apse of the Chiesa Madre designed in 1972 by the architect Ludovico Quaroni. An experiment of hybridity between art and urban architecture that represents a unique endeavour and a challenge capable of producing unexpected and extraordinary effects.
Batia Suter (Switzerland, 1967) produces monumental installations of digitally manipulated images for specific locations.. In 2007 and 2016 she published the artist books Parallel Encyclopedia and Parallel Encyclopedia #2, based on compositions of images taken from old books she has collected along the years. She exhibited at Images Vevey in 2020.
