by Robert Pufleb and Nadine Schlieper
Alternative Moons tests our perception and demonstrates just how easily images can mislead us. The title of the series refers to “alternative facts”, an expression coined by the Trump administration. This project is about exploring image consumption in the context of modern mass media. Creating an atmosphere of ambivalence, the photographic documentation of visual phenomenons emerging from an ordinary everyday situation invites the viewer to question the secrets of the visible. The trap is delicious, as when we think we see the moon’s surface, we are in fact looking at... pancakes.
Robert Pufleb (Berlin, 1969) is an artist and photographer, living and working in Düsseldorf. Nadine Schlieper (Düsseldorf, 1976) works as a graphic designer. In 2017, Pufleb and Schlieper won the Vienna Photo Book Award with their first publication Alternative Moons.
