10” Rome/10” Zürich
by Hayahisa Tomiyasu
The idea for this video work started during Hayahisa Tomiyasu’s lockdown period in Zurich. As Covid-19 was spreading out from China, across Asia, and then into Europe, a strong feeling of uncertainty was increasing, and everyone was questioning what might happen in the next few seconds. This shared feeling of fear and anxiety brought Tomiyasu to observe and collect the numbers he encountered in public spaces and show them as to remind an almost compulsory countdown.
Hayahisa Tomiyasu (1982, Japan/CH) studied photography at Tokyo Polytechnic University (BA) and at Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig (Meisterschüler). He worked at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste as assistant and his works have been shown around the world. In 2020 he exhibited the TTP project at Images Vevey.
